Safety in Jordan
Peace of mind, hospitality, and essential advice for your journey.
Is Jordan Safe?
Jordan is widely considered one of the safest countries in the Middle East. Often referred to as the "quiet house in a noisy neighborhood," Jordan prides itself on stability, hospitality, and a low crime rate. Tourism is a vital part of the economy, and the government—including the Tourist Police—prioritizes the safety of visitors.
At Wadi Rum Bedouin Tours, your safety is our top priority during your desert expedition. Whether you are trekking, climbing, or using our 4x4 logistical support, you are in experienced hands.
Crime & Theft
Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. Petty theft can happen in crowded areas, but it is uncommon. Jordanians are known for their honesty.
Solo Female Travel
Jordan is safe for solo female travelers. While harassment is rare, dressing modestly (covering shoulders and knees) helps minimize unwanted attention.
Health & Water
Tap water is generally not for drinking; stick to bottled or filtered water. Medical facilities in major cities like Amman and Aqaba are excellent.
Safety in Wadi Rum
The desert is beautiful but vast. Getting lost is the primary risk for solo hikers. Mobile signal can be spotty deep in the reserve.
- Don't Hike Alone: Always inform someone of your route or hire a Bedouin guide.
- Dehydration: The air is dry even in winter. Carry 2-3 liters of water per day.
- Heat Stroke: Avoid strenuous hiking during the midday sun in summer (12 PM - 3 PM).
